الفدية تدفع عن من لم يستطع الصيام بسبب عذرٍ شرعي مثل الأمراض المزمنة، أما الكفارة فهي تجب على كل من لم يصم بدون عذر شرعي وقيمتها ما قيمته إطعام 60 مسكيناً لكل مسكين وجبتين من متوسط ما يأكل الشخص الذي وجبت عليه الكفارة.
